Most Acura owners underestimate what they are still covered for — particularly second owners, who often do not realise the factory warranty came with the car. Here is what each coverage includes, when the clock actually starts, and what it will not pay for.
Two numbers decide it: the date your Acura was first put into service and its current mileage. Coverage runs from the in-service date, not from the day you bought the car — which is why a two-year-old Acura you purchased last month may have less warranty left than you assumed, and a used one may have more.
Give us the VIN and we will read the exact in-service date out of Acura’s system and tell you what remains. There is no charge and you do not need to be a customer.
One thing worth knowing up front: Acura’s factory warranties transfer to subsequent owners at no cost. If you bought your Acura used, privately or from another dealer, any remaining coverage came with it.

Often called bumper-to-bumper. It covers defects in materials or workmanship across the vehicle — electronics, climate control, infotainment, power accessories, sensors and modules. If a component failed because it was built or assembled wrong, this is the coverage that pays for it.
What it is not is a maintenance plan. It does not cover parts that wear out through normal use, and it does not cover damage from an outside cause.
Covers the expensive core of the car: the engine, the transmission or transaxle, and the front- and rear-wheel-drive systems including SH-AWD components. It runs two years and 20,000 miles past the basic warranty, which is the window where a lot of owners discover they are still covered for something significant.
If a technician has quoted you for internal engine or transmission work on an Acura under six years old, have the VIN checked before you authorise anything.
A Precision Certified Acura carries a 24-month / 100,000-mile non-powertrain limited warranty that begins when the original new-car coverage expires, plus powertrain protection to 7 years / 100,000 miles measured from the original in-service date. Roadside assistance is included 24 hours a day throughout the limited warranty period, anywhere in the U.S. or Canada.
Coverage is honoured at any Acura dealer nationwide, not only where you bought the car.
Being clear about this saves everyone a difficult conversation at the service desk.
Wear items are not defects. Brake pads and rotors, tires, wiper blades, filters, belts, brake fluid and other fluids all wear out by design. They are maintenance, and they are yours. That is true at every manufacturer, not just Acura.
Neglect and outside causes are excluded. Damage from missed maintenance, contaminated fuel, collision, road hazards, environmental fallout or unapproved modifications is not covered.
But a failure caused by a defective part is covered, even if it presents like wear. If a caliper seizes and destroys a pad because the caliper was defective, that is a warranty conversation. Describing the symptom accurately matters — it is the difference between a diagnosis and an assumption.
Not sure which side of that line your repair falls on? Bring us the inspection sheet. We explain what each recommendation means, and we check coverage before we quote.
Under federal law, a manufacturer cannot void your warranty simply because routine maintenance was performed somewhere else, or because you used aftermarket parts. That is not how it works, and any shop that tells you otherwise is misinformed.
What can cause a denied claim is an inability to prove required maintenance was actually performed on schedule with correct-specification fluids and parts. The burden of that proof sits with you.
Dated, itemised, showing mileage and what was used. A credit card statement is not documentation.
“Compatible” fluid is not the same as specified fluid, and transmissions are where that argument usually happens.
Work performed at an Acura dealer records to your VIN in Acura’s system. There is nothing left to prove.
Three different things, three different answers to “who pays.”
A warranty repair is a defect that appears within the coverage term and mileage. Acura pays. Once you are outside the term, you are outside it.
A safety recall is free forever — no age limit, no mileage limit, no requirement that you are the original owner. See the open Acura recalls and check your VIN.
A warranty extension or product update is Acura voluntarily extending coverage on one component for a specific population of vehicles. These are the ones owners miss, because they are not publicised the way recalls are. We check all three off a single VIN.
One VIN, one phone call. We will tell you what is covered, what is not, and what is free.
The Acura New Vehicle Limited Warranty runs 4 years or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first, and covers defects in materials or workmanship. The Powertrain Limited Warranty runs longer, at 6 years or 70,000 miles, and covers the engine, transmission or transaxle, and the front- and rear-wheel-drive systems.
Coverage runs from the original in-service date, which is the date the vehicle was first delivered or first put into service, not the date you personally bought it. Give us the VIN and we will read the exact in-service date from Acura's system.
Yes. Acura's New Vehicle Limited Warranty and Powertrain Limited Warranty transfer automatically to subsequent owners at no cost. If there is coverage remaining based on the in-service date and mileage, it came with the vehicle.
A Precision Certified Acura carries a 24-month, 100,000-mile non-powertrain limited warranty beginning when the original new-vehicle coverage expires, plus powertrain coverage to 7 years or 100,000 miles from the original in-service date. Roadside assistance is included throughout the limited warranty period, and coverage is honoured at any Acura dealer nationwide.
No. Brake pads, rotors, tires, wiper blades, filters, belts and fluids are wear items that are consumed through normal use, and they are excluded at every manufacturer. A failure caused by a defective component is a different matter and may well be covered.
No. Federal law prevents a manufacturer from voiding your warranty simply because maintenance was performed elsewhere or aftermarket parts were used. However, you must be able to document that required maintenance was completed on schedule with correct-specification parts and fluids. Servicing at an Acura dealer records the work to your VIN, which removes any documentation dispute.
No. A safety recall is free permanently, with no age limit, no mileage limit and no requirement that you are the original owner. A warranty repair is only free within its term and mileage. Many owners with expired warranties still have open recalls they are entitled to have fixed at no charge.
A warranty extension is Acura voluntarily extending coverage on a specific component for a specific group of vehicles. They receive far less publicity than recalls, which is why owners routinely pay for repairs that were covered. We check open recalls, applicable warranty extensions and any relevant service bulletins from a single VIN, free of charge.
