Replace tires when tread depth reaches 4/32 of an inch — not the legal minimum of 2/32. Wet-weather stopping distance increases sharply below 4/32, and New Jersey sees enough rain and slush that the difference is meaningful on Route 22 and the Parkway.
Get an alignment when you notice uneven or rapid tread wear, the steering wheel off-center on a straight road, the vehicle pulling to one side, or after any pothole impact, curb strike or suspension repair. Acura's Super Handling All-Wheel Drive continuously varies torque between the front and rear axles and between the left and right rear wheels. The system's control unit assumes all four tires roll at the same circumference. When one tire is significantly more worn than the others, its circumference is smaller, so it rotates faster — and the SH-AWD system reads that as constant slip.
The result is a driveline that is always working, always generating heat, and always wearing the clutch packs and rear differential. On MDX and RDX platforms this is a genuinely expensive failure mode, and it is entirely preventable.
The rules are simple. Replace all four tires together on an SH-AWD Acura whenever possible. If you must replace fewer, all four must be the same brand and model, and the tread depth difference across the set should stay within about 2/32 of an inch. Rotate on schedule so wear stays even in the first place. If you have already replaced two, we can shave the new tires to match — call and ask before you buy.

We recommend replacement at 4/32 of an inch. The legal minimum in New Jersey is 2/32, but wet stopping distance and hydroplaning resistance degrade sharply below 4/32. Given how much rain and slush this region sees, 2/32 is a legal threshold, not a safe one.
Yes, when the puncture is repairable — generally a puncture in the tread area, not the sidewall or shoulder, and under about a quarter inch. We perform a proper plug-patch repair from inside the tire, which is the only method that seals both the inner liner and the puncture channel. Sidewall damage cannot be safely repaired and requires replacement.
Yes. Tire pressure monitoring sensors must be relearned to the vehicle after replacement or repositioning, or the warning light will not clear correctly. Sensors also have a finite internal battery life of roughly 7 to 10 years, so on older Acura models we test them and let you know before mounting new tires.
