The MDX carries more weight, more driveline hardware and more torque-vectoring complexity than anything else in the Acura lineup. That means brakes, fluids and the rear differential need attention on schedule — not when something starts making noise.

MDX service follows the Maintenance Minder, not a fixed mileage schedule. The items MDX owners most often defer are rear differential fluid (sub-code 6) and transmission fluid (sub-code 3) — and on a three-row SUV with SH-AWD, those are the two that turn into four-figure repairs when skipped.
The MDX is also hard on brakes. It is the heaviest vehicle Acura sells, and Union County stop-and-go traffic means front pads on an MDX routinely wear faster than the same pads on a TLX or Integra.

Rear differential fluid. The MDX's SH-AWD system uses clutch packs in the rear differential to send torque side to side. Those clutch packs depend on the correct fluid to engage smoothly. Degraded fluid shows up first as a shudder or binding sensation in tight turns — a parking lot, a U-turn on Morris Avenue. That symptom is the cheap warning. Ignore it and the clutch packs themselves wear, which is no longer a fluid service.
Transmission fluid. A three-row SUV works its transmission harder than a sedan, especially loaded with people and cargo. Acura calls for it at sub-code 3, and MDX owners skip it more than any other item on the list because nothing feels wrong at the time.
Front brakes. The MDX is the heaviest vehicle in the lineup, and physics is not negotiable — more mass means more energy converted to heat at the front rotors. If you commute on Route 22 or I-78, expect front pads to need attention noticeably sooner than the rears.
