The ZDX has no engine oil, no spark plugs and no transmission fluid — but "electric" does not mean "maintenance-free." It shifts the maintenance to a different, shorter list that owners are far more likely to forget precisely because there is no oil change reminding them to come in.

Quick Answer

Where to Service an Acura ZDX Near Springfield, NJ

The Acura ZDX, Acura's all-electric SUV, is serviced at Springfield Acura at 243 U.S. Highway 22, Springfield Township, NJ 07081. Call (201) 625-9991 to schedule.

A ZDX needs no engine oil, no oil filter, no spark plugs and no transmission fluid. What it does need: brake fluid replacement, battery thermal management coolant service, tire rotation and replacement, cabin air filter, 12-volt battery testing, and periodic software updates.

The counterintuitive one is brakes. Regenerative braking means the friction brakes are used far less, so pads last a long time — but calipers that rarely engage are prone to seizing, especially after New Jersey road-salt winters. Caliper service on an EV is arguably more important than on a gas vehicle, not less.

What an Electric Acura Actually Needs

Brake fluid. Still hygroscopic, still absorbs moisture from the air, still needs replacement roughly every 3 years regardless of mileage. The fact that you barely use the friction brakes does not slow down the chemistry.

Caliper service. This is the EV-specific item almost nobody thinks about. Regenerative braking does most of the stopping, so the friction brakes sit largely unused. Slide pins corrode, pads bond lightly to rotors, and the first time you need a hard stop the system does not perform as designed. We clean and lubricate caliper hardware as part of EV service — and in a state that salts its roads, that matters.

Battery thermal management coolant. The high-voltage battery is liquid-cooled, and that loop has its own service requirements. Battery temperature control directly affects both charging speed and long-term battery health, so this is not an item to defer.

Tires. EVs are heavy and deliver torque instantly. Both factors accelerate tread wear, and ZDX owners are frequently surprised by how quickly the first set goes. Rotate on schedule — it is the cheapest way to extend the set.

The 12-volt battery. Yes, it still has one, and it still runs the vehicle's low-voltage electronics. A weak 12-volt battery in an EV produces confusing faults that can look far more serious and expensive than they are.

ZDX Service Checklist

What we perform on the ZDX, and why each item is on the list.

Brake fluid

Every 3 years regardless of mileage. Moisture absorption does not care how little you use the brakes.

Caliper cleaning and lubrication

The highest-value EV brake item. Prevents seizure from disuse and road salt.

Battery thermal coolant

Serviced on the factory schedule. Affects charging performance and battery longevity.

Tire rotation and replacement

EV weight and torque accelerate wear. Rotation on schedule pays for itself.

Cabin air filter

Unchanged from a gas vehicle — and the one filter a ZDX still has.

12-volt battery test

Checked at every visit. A weak one causes misleading fault codes.

Software updates

Module and system updates applied with factory tooling.

Common Questions

Acura ZDX Service Questions

Where can I service my Acura ZDX near Springfield, NJ?

Springfield Acura at 243 U.S. Highway 22, Springfield Township, NJ 07081 services the Acura ZDX with Acura-trained technicians, Genuine Acura parts and factory diagnostic equipment. Call (201) 625-9991 to schedule, or book online.

How often does an Acura ZDX need service?

The ZDX uses Acura's Maintenance Minder rather than fixed mileage intervals. The system calculates remaining oil life from actual driving conditions and displays a main code plus sub-codes. Schedule when remaining oil life reaches 15 percent, and do not let it reach zero.

Do I need to service my ZDX at an Acura dealer?

Routine maintenance performed elsewhere does not automatically void your Acura warranty under federal law. However, warranty repairs and open safety recalls can only be performed by an authorized Acura dealer, and required maintenance must be documented as completed on schedule with correct-specification parts and fluids.

Do you service an Acura ZDX I bought somewhere else?

Yes. We service every Acura regardless of where it was purchased, including vehicles bought out of state, from another dealer or from a private seller, with the same technicians, parts and equipment.

Can you check my ZDX for open recalls?

Yes, free of charge. Call (201) 625-9991 with your 17-digit VIN and we will check Acura's recall database. Open safety recalls are repaired at no cost regardless of the vehicle's age, mileage or where it was purchased.
